Kate Fitzharris will be exhibiting a new series of ceramic figures. She writes:

'I have been looking at early NZ photographic portraits, both studio and outside. At times they seem both mysterious and self-conscious, a glimpse into people's lives and stories. And what of the objects around them?

In this work I have wanted to capture moments, like these portraits, within larger narratives, so we ask "What happens next? Where to from here?"

This also references the ongoing nature of life, that each moment leads on to another. And also those ordinary moments when significant things happen - you might not be able to say what it is but there has been a shift of some sort - when something touches you or moves you in some way. And you can begin noticing things around you afresh.

Aspects of hope, conscious willing and focus are represented in the hand gestures - fingers crossed, hand to heart and mudra.'
