Artist Profile of Brian Adam
Artist Statement:

'I'm a jeweller with an eye for fun, and my motivation to make stuff comes from the delight I get playing with materials and processes. I'm curious about objects, what they're made of and how they work. I use soft-tech and low-tech ways to shape materials into jewellery, which I want to be durable and comfortable to wear. To me eyewear is one of the most humorous areas of body adornment, as well as being a site for functional and elegant eyeglasses.'

Adam's fascination for melting metals, discovering alloys and developing new ways with materials is put to use in all his jewellery. His classic earring works are called Sputniks, discs of paua that beam out to planets and the solar system in general.

Like many applied artists, Adam has taught jewellery part time for a number of years and now shares his craft in private workshops. He has been the recipient of a number of Arts Council/Creative New Zealand grants, has exhibited in the USA and Australia, and is represented in a number of private collections.
