Artist Profile of Frejj
Frejj is a Sydney based leather accessories label, which incorporates satchels, purses and jewellery, created by sisters Jayne Gray and Julia Flanagan. The name Frejj (pronounced fray) is a blend of the sisters' first and last names, coincidently, it is also the name of the Norse god of prosperity. The defining characteristics of Frejj's designs are the use of unusual and distinctive leathers, one off designs, all hand crafted and designed by Gray and Flanagan.

The sisters fuse principles of utility, simplicity and innovation, with traditional textile techniques such as appliqué, patchwork and embroidery. Their designs are bold, spontaneous, whimsical and freeform and demonstrate their passion for decorative and fine arts. Additionally, the Frejj range alludes to aspects of science, nature, architecture and the man-made environment.

The jewellery range makes use of non-precious materials such as leather, ribbon and metal findings. At present the styles within the jewellery range include leather medallions, molecular chains, Braille and Morse code.

Originally from Newcastle, Gray and Flanagan are now both living and working in Sydney. Gray is formally trained as an Occupational Therapist and worked in London for several years, where she also studied silver jewellery design. Flanagan completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at the National Art School in 2005, majoring in painting. She started designing and making bags in 2000 to sell at markets and various boutiques in Newcastle and Sydney.
