Anna Ward's practice is a blend of the seductive and the sinister, which is often referenced through the evocative combination of materials that she works with. Retelling stories and creating new readings are part of the playful qualities that Ward's pieces offer. She creates new value by integrating found objects and the precious and allowing the interpretations placed upon these materials by the viewer to enrich her pieces.

Artist Statement for L'Aiglon brooches, 2007:
'The ballerina images in these brooches are taken from a set of 1950's placemats that I bought a few years ago. The reproduced prints on the placemats were taken from various celebrated paintings of ballets. In this brooch series the original painting is by Carlotta Edwards portraying a scene taken from the ballet L'Aiglon.
L'Aiglon was a play, opera and ballet depicting the life of Napoleon II. The title L'Aiglon translated from French means "eaglet" (a young eagle). It was also the nickname of Napoleon's son, Napoleon II of France.'
