Anna Wallis is a contemporary New Zealand jeweller.
Artist statement:
'I have been working as a jeweller since 1993 when I established Workshop 6 along with Areta Wilkinson, Helen O'Connor and Lisa Walker. We are currently based in Kingsland and I continue to make and exhibit jewellery throughout New Zealand, alongside teaching jewellery making at Workshop 6, and more recently Unitec.
I am mainly a metal based jeweller with my current work following a method of folding, slicing and soldering sheet to resemble metallic crystalline forms. The process of implementing these techniques dictates the layout of the jewellery; the way the solder grips the components pull the jewellery together in an unpredictable way resulting in a naturalistic form. These pieces consequently reference the crystal structure of metal itself as well as being reminiscent of landscapes and naturally occurring rocks and minerals.
Recently I have begun to experiment with other materials such as ebony and plastics, building and slicing to create yet other impressions of landscape and architecture.'
