Artist Statement:
'In 2004 I graduated from a Bachelor of Design, majoring in jewellery, from Auckland's Unitec Institute.
My fascination with the miniature is reflected in the 'Charmed Collection' which takes a tongue in cheek look at women's wants and vices, communicated through playful charms.
I enjoy the practicalities of metal-working and the processes involved in manipulating metal. I relish working on such a small scale, as with the charms, and love the challenge of creating tiny details to give each piece individuality and character.
I am interested in the idea of the charm itself, particularly the intimate significance it can represent to its owner. A charm can spark memories of another time and place or commemorate a milestone. And a collection of charms on a bracelet can create a dialogue of the wearer's passions or travels.
In the 'Charmed Collection' series each piece is hand-made and embellished with fun and vivacity. I am continuously exploring new ideas and introducing new imagery, such as the enamel painted 'Sweets Collection'; an assortment of cupcakes, slices and ice cream - my own personal weakness!'
