I am a self-taught, eclectic artist living and working in Hawkes Bay. My main focus, at the moment, is on jade (greenstone) carving, and I have been jade carving for about five years.
I do particular line of jade discs for Masterworks Gallery. These are 35mm to 45mm across, 2 - 2.5mm thin, concave discs with a silver band around the edge, a three plait adjustable cord and finished with a hand-made bead in a dark serpentine. Sometimes I add a carnelian and/or lapis lazuli bead as well, depending on the jade itself. I select jade that has some special or unusual quality that is worth "framing". A sample photo is included here.
I also carve a variety of other shapes and forms in jade and other stone either as commissions or experiments. I particularly enjoy commission work as it is very satisfying to work with a client on a piece especially for them and to see them well pleased and satisfied when they are presented with the finished work.
I also carve in bone but only if I'm asked.
